Meet Brooke & Sherri Cherry
Sherri's Story
Especially in the South, food says love in a special way. My grandmother, mom and aunts were all amazing cooks who enjoyed sharing their gift with others. It sparked something in me that continues to this day. I love sharing a special treat with someone, waiting to see their eyes light up, knowing how special they will feel.
Food was - and is - our family’s way of sharing love and thank you’s. I love Cherry on Top because it allows that tradition to continue in our busy lives today. Few of us have time to bake for others, but that special connection to food and fellowship is still there.
A few years ago, I ran across a special cake (now our famous Cinnamon Walnut Coffee Cake) and shared it with a few loved ones, who immediately wanted to be able to share it with others. And so Cherry on Top began. Since then, I’ve searched for all of the best goodies to share with friends and family. And now I’d like to share them with you. I think you’ll love them as much as we do.
Brooke's Story
Mom started the endeavor that would become Cherry on Top when I was in junior high. She'd found an amazing cake she wanted to share with others—and she wanted to continue her tradition of making each Christmas more magical than the last for my brother and me. Packaging and delivering those cakes for a handful of local businesses allowed her to secure some extra cash and make the holidays more merry for everyone.
It all started with that exceptionally delicious cake and a dream that grew over time. I'll never forget coming home from Baylor to find my bedroom overrun by cakes. It was clearly time for a name—and a bigger space.
Mom and I worked together to come up with a name and I worked with a friend to design our very first logo. Before we knew it, I'd become the unofficial branding and communications consultant. I wrote emails and designed labels, proofed documents and put together postcards and flyers, telling the Cherry on Top story through words and images. During that time, I also worked full time at other organizations, got married, moved to North Carolina, and started a family of my own.
Our Story
In January of 2021, Brooke's little family finally came back home to Waco, Texas, and we began talking about what it might look like for her to join Cherry on Top—officially this time. We spent a year and a half taking baby steps and exploring possibilities while waiting for just the right time (and having so much fun along the way).
And since we added another Cherry (Brooke) to Cherry on Top, it seemed like the right time to add another cherry to our logo and give this website (our Sweet Retreat) a little makeover. We are so excited about what the future holds and can't wait to share it all with you.
